I have been taking this generic form of Celexa for ten years, next month. I was hesitant about getting on any mood med, but it has helped me tremendously. I am here writing this review... that's the point, I'm here. Diagnosed with major depression at 19, I was prescribed this pill by my family physician after several doctors visits relating to depression and its toll on my mind and body. It took m...

I found that my whole life experience worstened and I encountered severe suicidal thoughts. T rying to commet suicide twice! My female partner was a huge cause of going on Citalopram in the first place. I was trying to stabelize my family. It's her way or the highway. Also, I thought it would help me with the mind games she always played! She always has to have her way.

Started taking this medication over a year ago due to aweful general anxiety disorder mainly manifesting in vile physical symptoms such as palpitations, severe hot flashes, tinnitus and intrusive thoughts that led to depression. Started on 10mg two months after taking sertraline for 4 days prescribed by my doctor and not being able to cope with the bad reaction to sertraline. Citalopram has really helped me live a normal life free from daily Agitation and other symptoms, I still have the odd physical symptom such as the odd palpitation and random heat localised hot flush but I pay no attention to them, overall the medication has helped me feel somewhat normal again.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Citalopram for just over a year. I take it for anxiety and depression. to citalopram 10 mg. I had very mild side effects with Citalopram. This starting dose did help with me with sleeping and anxiety but only a little bit with depression. My dose was increased to 20mg, which did improve my symptoms. After about 6 months I started to feel a bit flat and lacking in energy. The dose was increase to 30mg for a month trial , which did help, but reduced back to 20mg partly as I wary of increasing the dose. I recently saw my doctor for a review . I was still feeling very flat & low energy. I'm in the process of increasing to 40 mg over a couple of weeks. I can't believe how much better I feel. Heaps more energy, feeling really good - I hope it continues. . We discussed the 40 mg dose as this is the max dose, as I know higher doses can affect the heart. I don't think I realised how severely depressed I was, even though I could barely functionRead More Read Less

I’ve been on Citalopram twice over the years mainly for anxiety. They really work well. Horrible side effects for the first few weeks. I read some people knock them, to get the best out of them you need to change your lifestyle also, such as exercising, a good diet, meditation and stop drinking alcohol.

I been taking 10mg for 3weeks and my family did see an improvement in my moods etc. I then was put to 20mg which I have been on for 5weeks now. I take the tablet in the evening but I am struggling to sleep. In the morning I am always tired and feel nauseous and shaking which then leads to me being more anxious. I spoke to my doctor he won't look at my dosage as he thinks that is not the problem. Anyone take this medication in the morning.

I am a 25 year old female and this is my second time using citalopram. It has been around a year and a half since my last prescription of citalopram (20mg) however, after stressful life events and a full on workload, my anxiety got increasingly unbearable and around 6 weeks ago I phoned the doctor and they prescribed citalopram again. For the first week I took 10mg before increasing to 20mg…. I’ll be honest, my side effects were not great. I felt sick quite often, struggled with insomnia and felt significantly more anxious and at times scared to be left alone. I did not feel suicidal, however, the anxiety began to scare me. I also experienced frequent panic attacks and found it difficult to go to work and do daily things such as drive. Although my side effects did not feel the best, THEY DID NOT LAST. The tablets definitely began to kick in by week 4 and I am so happy with how I feel now. Exercise and keeping busy helped me through the difficult weeks…. If you are unsure, read up on the positive effects on mental health after just 10-30 minutes of exercise a day. Today, I feel calmer and able to go to work. I am able to meet up with friends and go to the supermarket. I feel more confident and I haven’t had a panic attack in weeks. I am back to sleeping well like I was before and my appetite is back. I feel overall like I am back to how I felt before. For anyone considering citalopram, I can honestly say that without this my life would have been an ongoing battle with my mind. Despite a slight reluctance to take tablets, online CBT and exercise/keeping busy were NOT enough. Sometimes tablets for a period of time are NEEDED. Remember, the difficult feelings DO pass… give it time :)Read More Read Less

I have been using this medication for over 10 years and it works very well in dealing with anxiety. I am a chronic pain sufferer which causes anxiety and depression at times knowing I have to go through life and not get any better even if another back surgery is performed (5th). This med keeps my emotional state in a comfortable place and reduces the anxiety of dealing with that bone a daily basis. Thank you.

Since age 16, I have been on/off various antidepressants. Citalopram is my golden ticket and works best at managing my symptoms. The symptoms of depression that I have are; anxiety, trouble sleeping, always tired, lack of emotions such as happiness & empathy, lost of interest in life, feeling angry all the time like having a short fuse, feeling emotionally numb. It's normal for one to cry when sad, however when I'm depressed I don't cry at all. Upon starting the medication, I felt drowsy and actually slept better, so took my dose at night before bedtime. Two weeks into treatment, I noticed my temperament was better and felt less anxious. Five weeks is when I had an "ah ha" moment of realizing that the medication was reallly working! I actually had a normal sleep routine again, no more staying awake for 2 days straight. My energy levels were up, I was eager and capable to conquer the day. I smiled a whole lot more and found pleasure in even the smallest of moments. I began to take better care of myself, had better focus and concentration. I was ME again and boy did it feel amazing to be back! In closing, it takes trial and error to figure out what works best for YOU. What works best for me may not for you, and vice versa. BUT you must be patient and give medication the proper amount of time to fully feel the benefits. Importantly, once you do begin to feel better, do not abruptly stop taking your medication. I've made that mistake in the past and it only put a major dent in my progress. Symptoms immediately came back and had to start all over again. Don't give up, keep your head up, stay strong, and best of luck!!!Read More Read Less

I have been on a 10mg dose daily for two years. It worked great for a long time until It just stopped working at all. Felt very unmotivated 24/7 and just had no energy and became a very angry person with no normal emotions. Decided to stop taking it but didn't do it the smartest way, now struggling with "withdrawal" symptoms currently and its no fun.

I more than Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I also have major depression especially around the holidays is when it gets worse. I also have anxiety and trouble falling asleep. I normally take this medication around 10pm every night and it sometimes doesn't kick in when I want it to so I have to take a 10mg melatonin on top of it along with my hydroxezine. It has helped me some but may need a higher dose.

It took about 2 weeks for me to start feeling a difference. Citalopram doesn't make me feel medicated but early on I did have mild side effects. I take it every night at 9:30 and have to have a reminder set or I will forget. The situations that made me miserable and caused so much anxiety don't even phase me now.
