BP was 186/92 then Dr. prescribed 20mg Lisinopril & I quickly developed blurred vision, headaches, tiredness and a nagging dry cough. Dr. quickly lowered dosage to 10mg & had me take pill at night & symptoms decreased significantly. 14 months later after losing 32lbs, my dosage was again lowered to 5mg and “ALL” the above symptoms are gone. BP now 108/70. If you experience bad side effects lik...

took it 3.5 yrs + Was having MANY falls. Took BP reading before each low dose. I was Hypotensive, so why take antihypertensive? Stopped. The good thing there was my terrible tremor, a rare adverse effect, disappeared after a few weeks without it. I was unable to do anything but am now replacing tools, I can write, and eat, and even thread a needle! Some doctors welcome the news and use it in their practices. Others don’t want to listen to me.

Had high BP 130-140 (140's in the doctors office), and was prescribed 5 mg to help lower BP after diet and exercise resulted in only marginal improvement. Lisinopril helped bring it down to 115-125. Have experienced similar side effects of dry cough, occasional dizziness, more anxiety, but decided it was worth it to lower the BP. Then I noticed issues with ED that I assumed were unrelated since the drug literature says if anything it should help. But looking back those ED problems coincided with the time I started taking the drug about 3 months ago. Planning to stop taking it to see if it is a side effect for me.Read More Read Less

Started med on Thursday night, by Friday morning I thought I had a cold, coughing so bad that it would make me throw up. This is day 9 and I just checked out this web site to see if maybe it was the side effect, and I was right. After reading what others are saying I would also say, it’s a side effect. As of today no more meds! Calling doctor on Monday.

I gave tge medication a 2 start for satisfaction for a couple reasons. The first is because it did bring my blood pressure down. On the flip side were the side effects. My sinuses drained all night and I coughed all night, so literally I was getting just a couple hours of sleep. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't people get sicker with no sleep? I was only on 5 mg so I can only imagine what would have occurred had it been a higher dosage. I also had the dry cough during the day but it wasn't constant. My stomach was bloated and uncomfortable and I had other side effects. I didn't want to deal with this any longer so I decided I was taking control. I took myself off the meds, cut my sodium way back and started getting lots of potassium. I also found that turmeric and ginger are good for hypertension, so I started drinking that tea each day. I started eating beats daily and walking a few times a week. My blood pressure at one point was 182/110, its been about a month and my bp is now ranging from 135/100 to 129/89. It comes down a bit more each day. I'll keep it up because my health is worth it. Do some research and you'll see what changing eating and exercise habits can do. Don't be stuck on medication that causes more problems than it fixes. Read More Read Less

I had congestive heart failure 4 years ago. I was put on Lisinopril and have taken it for 4 years. I have almost every side effect. After having all these side effects I decided to look up my meds and wow am I surprised to find out all my issues could be related to lisinopril. And after reading all your comments I think I am convinced. I also take another drug for inflammation that I shouldn’t be taking with Lisinopril as it can also cause kidney damage. I recently had two UT’s, which was a reason to look up my meds, and now I feel these two drugs don’t agree with each other and both can cause kidney damage. Two back to back UTI’s could mean kidney damage if I understand correctly. Now I am afraid to have my kidneys checked after being on these two meds for four years. But, I have to and most likely stop the meds as I feel terrible and the infections are awful. Ugh! I am so bummed about this. Read More Read Less

Never been on medication long term before. Lisinipril really messed up my life. Had to live on cough drops even during sleep.Cold symtom jags so bad I could not carry on a normal conversation. Gave me purpura/petechiae spots on my legs from coughing. All these blood pressure meds are ototaxic = ear poison = tinnitus= now you life is wreaked! Other blood pressure meds made me sick in other ways just as bad. Don't know what to do now.

Early days, took 1st 10mg yesterday. Could not sleep at all, very agitated and uncomfortable. Crashing today with fatigue and no energy and light headed. They say there is an adjustment period. BP a bit lower. Causes ED? Duh?? I'd been taking 10mg Atenolol and it worked just fine.

My doctor put me on lisinopril two years ago and I told her I don’t like it I have lots of side effects and she doesn’t care. I go to Bellin hospital in Green Bay Wisconsin. I have sinus problems I have a dry cough my legs tingle I get warm one minute I get cold the next minute I’m constantly sweating. she will not do anything about it. So I’m taking myself off of this medicine that is evil and poison and hurting my kidneys and my liver. I’m going to find something natural because my doctor wants to put me on another medicine that probably is just as bad as this one.Read More Read Less

This is an evil drug. I’ve had chronic hypertension for 20+ years and my doctor finally succeeded for me to try Lisinopril. My average BP was 155/95 and I’m not normally prone to drug side effects. This drug was the worst. 10mg dose taken at night before bed as recommended. I developed within a day a chronic dry throat and “feather tickle” that wouldn’t go away. A serious cough developed, causing major loss of sleep (using cough meds best I could), no interest in eating and feeling of nausea before meals. Lowered performance in activities, which for me is cycling as I've been an avid racing cyclist my whole life. I was on it for only 2 weeks but before I stopped taking it, AS my BP hit a high of 185/115 causing several bad headaches. It didn’t reduce my BP at all and made it worse. Switched to Losartan and now my BP is falling 140/90 5 days in, no tickle in the throat or difficulty sleeping. My normal cycling performance returned and I feel great.Read More Read Less

Well it took some months for it to happen, but I got the dry, hacking cough. Tickle in the throat. Very annoying. Doctor told me to stop taking the pills. So far after not having it for 5 days, I feel like a new person. Cough is slowly going away. Waiting to see what else they put me in this week. Was taking 20mg a day of Lisinopril.

I have been taking 10mg for many years with good results and no side effects. Recently I was experiencing a swelling in my throat making it hard to swallow. I was treated with antibiotics and that didn’t help. I forgot to take my Lisinopril one day and my throat felt so much better. I researched the side effects and found out that swelling of the throat was a rare side effect. I contacted my doctor and she confirmed that throat swelling was a side effect and immediately took me off this medication. I was surprised that I developed this side effect after taking Lisinopril for many years with great success and no side effects. Read More Read Less

After taking Lisinopril for about one year I had a sudden severe attack of vertigo that sent me to the ER. Had a second attack about six months later that lasted for 24 hours and left me weak for several days. Vertigo attacks became more frequent until one was occurring about every three weeks. No cause could be determined but Dr. finally took me off the Lisinopril about 18 months ago and have not had vertigo since.

2.5 mg for HBP and Mitral Valve Prolapse with Mild Regurgitation. My BP is normal (110-120/70) part of the day and sometimes elevated (120-130/70) and rarely high (130-140/80) I'm on day 2 of taking this med and its already been a roller coaster. For the 1st hour or so after taking it I'm on fire, sweating, racing heart, jittery best description I could give; I feel like I just smoked crack or what I assume smoking crack feels like. Today, after that went away, I felt great then suddenly crashed mid day. Light headed, cold sweats, weird lump/pressure in my throat, weak and foggy. I was anxious about starting this because I haven't met with the cardiologist yet and I don't want to take something that I may be able to fix with lifestyle changes. I've been a slug for a while and mildly over weight. I feel like if I manage stress better, use supplement and exercise I can fix my BP on my own.Read More Read Less

Part of the original study group been taking it since before it was available to public 1990's. Doctor offset most of the side effects with a beta blocker. Only lasts 24hr in system - I get only 22hr effect. Short term side effects can be severe - pushed thu to the long tern ones - much better - after almost 30 yrs I now need a diuretic to stop fluid build up as my body ages - 63 trying to make it to 80 - so far so good - BP has not slowed me down. Why do I feel good when it's high and bad when it's good?Read More Read Less

It has helped reduce my BP from 150/100 to 130/95 but the cough that I developed has been brutal. It keeps me up most nights and I cough at times until I throw-up. Which I worry about when then my BP will spike from the cough and throwing up. Waiting for results of blood to determine if I should switch. Have also seem to develop some low sodium level symptoms but that could be non-related. Outside the cough I would say I do like the benefits.
