I just started Cymbalta yesterday for the second time. Only reason I stopped taking it (about two years ago) was because of the cost but now it comes in generic. When I took it the first time I had a GREAT experience with it. Nothing works better for me than Cymbalta so when I heard it came out in generic form I was so happy and couldn't wait to get back on it. I have been dealing with depression/...
Unfortunately most medications are designed to make you take more medications. Remember a sick society is profitable to Insurance, Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry. If they were to cure you the world would over populate and a very large sector of the financial markets would collapse and destroy the world economy. An economic system based in Hegelian Dialect simply no longer works anymore. But l...

This stuff is a complete life or death gamble -- either it works for you or it ruins your health and your quality of life. Chances are overwhelmingly high that you'll fall into the latter category. Proof? There is a Facebook group of around 32k people who are supporting each other in the tapering process, tapering off this poison. The comments on this group speak for themselves: tapering is a 3 - 5 year process, entailing that each week you have to sit down and carefully count the beads in your tablets (takes around 2-3 hours) with a pair of tweezers, reducing by a bead every 2 weeks. You'll be doing this for 3-5 years. If you decide that counting beads is a waste of your time and heroically decide to quit cold turkey, you risk strokes, brain zaps that put you on the floor, or permanent and extremely severe depression. Yet even during the tapering process, you will experience depression, nightmares, and a host of other symptoms. If your doctor prescribes this to you, it's time to change GPs. Read More Read Less

This has been literal HELL. I developed violent outbursts, increased anxiety, increased depression, increased my thoughts on suicide. I was CONSTANTLY nauseous. I would literally throw up EVERYDAY after a meal, and has now caused me liver damage. Would NOT recommend. Be careful!

I was prescribed Cymbalta at the age of 14 after trying Buspar which had zero effect on my depression and anxiety. I had to stop taking this medication after about a week because of the extreme and dangerous side effects it caused for me. I quite literally became a monster while taking Cymbalta. I was having violent outburst of rage multiple times a day and prior to taking this medication I had never experienced problems with rage or anger. My depression and anxiety got 100x worse and I became suicidal as well. My week on Cymbalta was the worst week of life I've experienced. Read More Read Less

Cymbalta changed a lot for me. Fibromyalgia disabled me to the point that my doctor told me I was on the path to a wheelchair. Everything hurt, I was tired and in pain. It takes a few weeks to really kick in and the starting side effects are rough. They quiet down though. Additionally, it also helps with the extreme panic disorder I struggled with through high school.
You really do need to take it every day though. If you forget, you get these brain zaps that you only understand if you've had them. This medication will NOT work for everyone. My sister was prescribed it for her anxiety and it wasn't good at ALL.
Overall, try it. Its about what works best for you and finding a balance and what the right dose is. I'm so grateful for this med though because it gave me back my life- I'm applying to nursing school right now. 4 years ago I could barely walk.

I like it. I have tried quite a bit considering I have been diagnosed for 15 years. I haven't found anything I liked other than this. I've always preferred Valium. But it's addictive and it's a hassle to even get in the first place. Cymbalta is really great. More awakening rather than sedating. It took me a while to figure that out because I like to take all my meds before bed. But since I switched to taking it in the AM I have noticed my energy going more towards useful and enjoyable things rather than just feeling so overwhelmed I don't move all day. Which I think is the main reason to my little weightloss. It didn't happen rapidly or anything and I don't think my appetite has changed much.
The reason I didn't give it the best rating is because we'll no medicine is PERFECT. I still get minor dry mouth and have night sweats. (Not sure if these are from this medicine or birth control) and I did have a uncomfortable adjustment period for about 3 weeks starting this medicine. Just nausea and a little mood swingy.. Since beginning Cymbalta about 3 years ago, I have had some side effects that I didn’t realize could be caused by it. For about 9 months now I have had a headache everyday! I get nauseated almost every time I eat. I get so HOT and sweat profusely. I suffer with extreme dry mouth. I am also on Trileptal for anxiety and depression. I have always been a cluttered, but OMG!!!! I am horrible now. I’m confused, have short term memory loss and have to take sleep aid at night. Man I am getting miserable. I’m thinking it may be the two of them together working against me now. It helped me so much but not anymore. Got to wean off it!Read More Read Less

I had a really hard time adjusting to this medication. I worked through all of the side effects listed during my first couple of weeks including a weird spaced out feeling, dizziness, nausea, headaches, body sweats, brain fog, blurry vision, insomnia etc. Ultimately the insomnia coupled with blurry vision and extreme sensitivity to light made staying on it impossible. I have no doubt this works for others, but wanted to share my experience incase it helps someone else. If you're prone to migraines, this may not be a good fit because it exacerbates migraine symptoms. Read More Read Less

I had unbearable neuropathy in my feet. They burned terrible and felt like a pencil was being pushed thru them. The pain occupied my every thought. My neurologist finally had me take Cymbalta and Lyrica together and my pain and burning was reduced by 90%. Please talk to your doctor about it. I have no side affects whatsoever . I also knew a guy who had terrible injuries at work and he smokes weed and has good results. I even tried that for the first time at age 64 and it REALLY worked but I hated the way it made me feel.Read More Read Less

So let me be the first to say that if this drug works for you, then that’s great, however for me, it did not, at least after a while. I feel like it did more harm than good, like other antidepressants that I’ve taken in the past, I experienced an hypomania episode, I was on 60mg and have been taking it since November of last year, I legitimately thought I lost my mind, I did things that were completely out of character for me, I felt like I had no control over myself, so from here on out, I will deal with my anxiety and depression naturally, no more drugs, I’m not saying this will be bad for you as everyone is different but for me, not my cup of tea. Only use this as a last resort when all else has failed. Read More Read Less

I’m 18 and this medication is ruining my life. Started it in October for depression and fibromyalgia, it’s currently February. I can barely remember the months in between aside from winding up in the hospital with serotonin syndrome and my doctor will only increase the dose. I feel like a zombie 24/7 and I’m constantly ill. Every single side effect possible has taken its turn. I have no appetite, no libido, no motivation, very rapid weight loss, always dizzy, in pain, and nauseous, can barely even speak anymore because of the fatigue and pain in my head. Constantly anxious and depressed more than I was off of the meds. Im not myself anymore. Not worth it whatsoever.Read More Read Less

Once you take this medication, you will be reliant for the rest of your life. No one tells you that until you miss a dose and experience the effects. It’s horrible and now I have to pay for a drug I don’t need for the rest of my life. I’m on other meds that are better suited for my diagnosis. Because of the cymbalta interaction with these medications, I experience muscle spasms.

I was only able to take one dose. It did ease the neuropathic pain somewhat but the side effects were intolerable. Nausea/vomiting, body tremors, and extreme lethargy, feelings of overdose. The benefits are not worth it. There has to be something else out there to help people like us without making us feel worse. We have enough going on already without the Dr.s making us feel worse. smh

I previously posted. This is an update. I took Cymbalta for two days a week ago. I swear I have had withdrawal symptoms since then. I thought I could just try it. Not so. I’ve had very bad nausea, heart palpitations, feeling very faint, tight chest, vertebrae pain and I lost weight. The first night I had leg cramps all during the night and twitching, up in the night- sick to stomach. I have never had such a bad reaction trying a drug.

I switched to Cymbalta from Prozac because I have a recent injury causing me chronic nerve pain in my foot. An unexpected effect is it controls hunger to stop over/binge eating! I've lost weight, save $ at grocery store & feel fantastic! Wish I had switched years ago.
